Product identifiers are essential in e-commerce because they help identify and recognize a specific product in the store. They allow store owners to easily track and manage their inventory.

It therefore becomes important to use unique identifiers for each product to avoid any inventory tracking issues.

Install Make Unique Product Identifier in your PrestaShop store to ensure that product identifiers are never duplicated.

The module validates the uniqueness of product identifiers such as EAN, MPN, JAN and ISBN and displays a warning if the retailer enters a duplicate value.

Note: the PrestaShop Make Unique Product Identifier module is compatible with version 8.xx of PrestaShop and the multi-store functionality.

• Validate the uniqueness of a product’s reference value when creating or updating the product.
• Validate the uniqueness of the MPN, UPC, EAN-13/JAN, and ISBN when creating or updating the product.
• Empty product reference fields when duplicating a product.
• A dedicated tab to view products and combinations whose duplicate values ​​exist.
• Improve inventory tracking.

• First, go to the module manager in the back office and click on “upload a module”.
• After that, drag and drop the module file or select the file in the system.
• This way the installation of the module will be successful.

After successful installation of the module, the administrator needs to configure it.

Enable product identifiers

The administrator can enable the uniqueness of identifiers (reference, MPN, UPC, EAN-13/JAN and ISBN) to be validated when creating or updating the product.

Suppose the admin has set “demo_1” in the reference field of a product.

While creating a new product, if the admin sets the same baseline value, a warning message will be displayed on the page as shown in the screenshot below.

If enabled, product reference fields will be cleared if the admin duplicates the product.

In the screenshot above, we can see that the product reference fields are empty.

Allow a combination of single-instance products to duplicate SKUs within the same product

If the field is activated, the references will be duplicated for any combination of the product.

After successful installation of the module, a new “Product Identifiers” tab is available under Catalog in the back office.

Here the admin can view the products and combinations for which duplicate values ​​exist.

In the screenshot above, we can see that the duplicate value exists in all combinations of a product.

If the admin has duplicated a product and “”Empty product references when duplicating a product” has been disabled, then the warning message will be displayed for the product as well as for the combinations.
